BUT most importantly, I didn't have to turn the oven to toast, set a timer, set a temp and then press start just to get a piece of toast to cook like most other toaster ovens out there. This toaster oven does everything a regular oven can, but on a small scale. I just hit TOAST and START.
For 1 or 2 people its a good substitute for the regular size ovens, Great product. and nothing has ever gone wrong. Have had this oven for about 4 years now. It survived 2 moves. It bakes great, the autoshut off is a great feature; the bell goes off and the oven turns off.
i don't know if that will fix the problem. the seller gave me the phone number to Krups. i am traveling for the month and will call Krups when i get home. this oven seemed good until i tried the convection mode. it rattles loudly when i put it on convection. i also don't know if anyone has had this problem as well.
Overall, it's done a great job. I like the digital screen, and the construction is mostly solid. One minor and one huge quibble.
I'm thinking about dumping it and getting a Breville. Not a big deal but it's a bit sticky.
Minor - the rubber on the buttons is really soft and squishy and started to fade very early. I looked on-line (including Amazon reviews) and it looks like the cost of repair is about $50, and often breaks again.
I've had this toaster oven for less than 2 years. The infra-red heating is very cool - has no pre-heating time at all.
Major - the hinge on the left side of the door totally broke on me.
Very, very dangerous and a serious design flaw. The only way to stop it at that point is to unplug. full strength. I can get it to work properly only if I prop open the door slightly to dump the steam. Seriously dangerous - steam has a tendency to build up in the oven while baking or toasting which then affects the digital controls. The controls fritz out and the oven stays on. So far, once it cools it's okay but it's a repeatable problem.
